is it worth it?
No, not visiting in the Fall. But, crossing into the Arctic Circle to hunt for the Northern Lights and floating around an icy lake in a survival suit was worth it and the perfect season.
We expected the Santa Claus Village to be over the top, but there were minimal decorations, no Christmas music, and limited holiday activities in September. In the winter more activities were available including reindeer and husky sleigh rides, ice fishing, snowshoe and skiing treks, dinner in a glass igloo, or visiting a reindeer farm. The village was beautiful at night, but the few shops and restaurants that were open closed early. Our free visit with Santa Claus in his office was the highlight for us. The passage was accessed through the gift shop and felt like a secret tunnel. Maybe closer to the holidays there’s a bit more Christmas spirit.
how to get there?
Local bus Number 8 provided infrequent transportation year round from Santa Clause Village to Rovaniemi Airport to Rovaniemi City Center. Luckily, Uber was also an option. During November to March direct shuttles are available on the Santa Express and Airport Express.
